Thanks to all who attended the Opening Event for “Unearthing Stories of Geer Cemetery”
Posted on April 26, 2025
On Friday, April 25th, the MoDH and the Friends of Geer Cemetery welcomed a great crowd of special friends for the opening event of our new exhibit, Unearthing Stories of Geer Cemetery. Guests enjoyed the meticulously curated exhibit, complete with cherished artifacts loaned by the Friends, and interactive audio-visual features.
We heard from guests speaker Michael Williams, representing the Historic Stagville Foundation, one of the presenting sponsors of the exhibit. Board and volunteers from the Friends of Geer Cemetery also spoke: Debra Taylor Gonzalez-Garcia, Carissa Trotta, and Deidre Barnes.
Live music was provided by Allie Capo throughout the evening. We hope you will get a sense of the convivial atmosphere at our opening night event from the photos below of guests enjoying the new exhibit. The Museum’s exhibits and accompanying events are free and open to the public, and we appreciate all our friends and donors who came out that night to celebrate with us!
Unearthing Stories of Geer Cemetery is now open and will remain at the Museum of Durham History until Fall 2025, thanks to our exhibit sponsors, Renee and Ralph Snyderman, Historic Stagville Foundation, and Acme Plumbing, as well as many individuals who contributed.
