Earlier this spring, we installed a new History Grove plaque to accompany the bench honoring Dr. John Hope Franklin. Please join us for a dedication ceremony the morning of September 10th at 10AM to highlight Dr. Franklin and his legacy. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Franklin received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1995, in recognition of his lifelong work as a teacher and historian of modern racial barriers.

Dr. Franklin’s History Grove is located a short walk from the Durham Central Park farmer’s market pavilion. Use our History Grove Map as a handy guide to locate the parklet. The dedication ceremony will take place on a Saturday morning, so Central Park will already be very busy with the hustle-and-bustle of the farmer’s market.

History Groves are made possible with generous support from the BIN Charitable Foundation.
