Celebrate Durham’s History This Season!
Posted on December 22, 2025
Happy Holidays!
’Tis the season of giving—and of looking ahead. As we plan for 2026, the Museum of Durham History has exciting programs and exhibits in store that will matter to our community. Whether you’re new to Durham or “Durham born and bred,” we believe everyone deserves to know the stories that shaped this place we call home. Since our incorporation in 2009 and our move into the former bus transfer station in 2013, the Museum has grown from a long-held dream into a vital part of Durham’s civic life. Our founders understood early on that a strong history museum contributes to quality of life—helping make Durham a place where people want to live, work, play…and STAY.

We were recently reminded of that legacy when founding board member, Steve Channing received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina’s highest honors. Hearing remarks from fellow Museum founder Lew Myers, alongside longtime MoDH-er Cindy Gardiner, underscored how meaningful—and enduring—these relationships have been.
Beyond education, the Museum builds hometown pride. We hope you’ll show yours by supporting the Museum financially, whether for the first time or as a returning donor. We stretch every dollar, and gifts of all sizes truly matter.
THANK YOU for believing in the power of local history and for helping ensure Durham remembers where it’s been—and imagines where it can go.
Help us preserve Durham’s histories by donating today!
P.S. Monthly gifts sustain us year-round. Please consider a recurring donation — it spreads out your payments and helps us plan!
P.P.S. In appreciation for your gift:
- $60+ donors receive a Museum-branded canvas tote bag.
- $125+ donors receive a one-of-a-kind, waterproof vinyl tote made from repurposed exhibit banners.
These “conversation starters” also make lovely and useful presents!
