Where We’re Going in 2026

After a successful 2025, the Museum of Durham History is excited for what’s ahead in 2026!

Our latest exhibit, Made in the Triangle: The Story of RTP, will continue to run through the spring. Even if you’ve already visited, there’s more to discover: We’ll be offering discussions, a trivia night, science fair, and events featuring entrepreneurs and executives who shaped Research Triangle Park. The FREE public program series will conclude with a presentation by Mack and Allen Paul, authors of a forthcoming book on RTP’s history and future, and whose research informed the exhibit.

In May 2026, we’ll debut To Love and Live Free: The 1986 Mayoral Recall Battle and the Fight for LGBTQ+ Rights in Durham, exploring the backlash to “Anti-discrimination Week” and the diverse coalition that advanced inclusion and reshaped Durham’s political and social landscape exactly 40 years ago. Programming will include conversations with those who lived it, and interactive activities for all ages.

Bringing these stories to the community requires resources…

As we reach the end of the year, we’re inviting you to support this work through a tax-deductible gift. Every contribution—large and small—helps us collect, preserve, and share Durham’s stories in ways that are free and accessible to the entire community.

Monthly gifts make an especially big impact by providing year-round stability.

As a token of our appreciation, donors of $60+ will receive a Museum-branded canvas tote bag, and donors of $125+ will receive a one-of-a-kind waterproof vinyl tote made from repurposed exhibit banners—unique, durable, and perfect for gifting!

Thank you for believing in the power of local history, for supporting community-driven storytelling, and for helping sustain a Durham that remembers where it’s been and imagines where it can go. We are so grateful!
