You came through for us!

Thanks to all our donors who showed up for the Museum of Durham History during the year-end giving season — 60 donors came through with $30,725.05 – an amazing and generous response to our appeal!
I am not even counting a gift that came in yesterday from a donor who told me that he wanted to start the New Year by contributing to a few organizations he has seen doing good work, and the Museum is one of them. I love that spirit! He had seen our Faces of Durham exhibit at the Durham Farmers Market this past summer and he got a kick out of recognizing many of the people he had known from his youth growing up in Durham.
(For those of you who haven’t seen our Faces of Durham traveling exhibit or the banners out front at the Museum, it really is fun to see the line-up of local ‘movers and shakers’ *and those who are not as well-known* to see how many you recognize!)
One of my favorite things about being a fundraiser for the Museum is that I get to hear how people found us or why they’ve chosen to support the organization with a financial commitment. Here are just a few heart-warming comments and notes we received during the giving season:
– “Many thanks for all you do for Durham.“
– “Thank you for your good work in telling the story of Booker T. Spicely. The program at the Main Library with his family was interesting.”
– “My son (2nd grader) attended a presentation the Museum recently gave to the EK Powe aftercare program and came home super excited to share what he learned about Durham history. This presentation motivated us to visit the Museum over the winter holidays.”
– “I’m delighted to have this resource in our community.”
The Museum also loved being able to provide some holiday hospitality during the month of December — nearly 500 visitors enjoyed our Cookies & Cider Weekends while viewing our exhibits. Keep coming back!
It warms my heart to feel the love of the community for the work we do and the stories we tell. If you are already a donor, THANK YOU! And if you want to join us this year, we will welcome you with open arms!
Happy New Year to all!
P.S. If you want to tell me more about your involvement with the Museum of Durham History, please send me at note at tharvey@modh.org.
