Join us for a powerful day of history, art, and restoration at Geer Cemetery. This event invites the community to honor the lives of those laid to rest, learn about ongoing preservation efforts, and celebrate Black heritage through meaningful experiences. The day will include an ancestral libation ceremony, a headstone restoration demonstration with conservator Jason Harpe, and performances by Baba Johnny and the Indigo Yard Gals. Visitors can also enjoy visual art, dance, and storytelling that highlight the legacy and resilience of this historic site.

In Partnership with Friends of Geer Cemetery
As part of the ongoing programming for the exhibit, Unearthing Stories of Geer Cemetery, the Museum of Durham History and Friends of Geer Cemetery are partnering to host and promote events and public programs exploring the stories, archaeology, and preservation of one of Durham’s earliest African American cemeteries.
