From a Former Bus Station to the New One: “L is for Legacy” @ Durham Station
Posted on August 4, 2025
If you find yourself enjoying Triangle public transit this August, make sure to visit the Durham Station Transportation Center (515 W. Pettigrew St.) to view our Durham A-Z: L is for Legacy traveling exhibit. These colorful pop-ups discuss the legacy of Floyd McKissick Sr. and his family, and how their activism impacted Durham and beyond.
If you were visiting Downtown Durham many, many years ago and in need of a bus ride, you would head to the brick building at 500 West Main Street. In the late 2000s, architect Phil Freelon designed the new bus terminal on Pettigrew Street, and the Museum of Durham History moved into 500 West Main shortly thereafter. We greatly appreciate GoDurham for hosting our community’s history, from one bus station to another!
