Railroad historian Tony Reevy and others will display their collections of train artifacts and talk about Durham’s railroad history.

You are cordially invited to the Museum of Durham History “Railroads of Durham” Pop-Up Exhibit, from 10am-1pm on Saturday, September 19, during the Durham Arts Council’s Centerfest Arts Festival.

We will cover the five railroads that served Durham: Durham & Southern, Norfolk Southern, Norfolk & Western, Seaboard Air Line and Southern Railway. We will touch on the North Carolina Railroad, which basically founded Durham; and today’s Norfolk Southern Corporation and CSX.

We will also talk about the vanished Durham trolley system, and the late, lamented Durham Union Station (for example, did you know that Watts-Hillandale was a trolley suburb of Durham?).

For more information about this pop-up exhibit, please contact the museum with any questions.
