Join us at the Museum of Durham History on Friday, October 17, at 6:00 p.m., for the opening celebration of our newest exhibit, Made in the Triangle: The Story of RTP. The evening will feature live music, catering from Fullsteam at Boxyard RTP, plus guest speakers including Robert D. Teer, Jr. who helped establish Research Triangle Park, along with authors Allen and Mack Paul, whose forthcoming book MIRACLE ROAD: The Story of Research Triangle Park provided key research for the exhibit.

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Visitors will trace RTP’s journey from the mid-20th century, when civic leaders, academics, and business people united to transform North Carolina’s economy, to its emergence as a hub for cutting-edge research and technology. The exhibit also investigates how this transformation reshaped Durham and surrounding communities—highlighting the lasting effects of urban renewal and the construction of the Durham Freeway, which displaced historically African American neighborhoods.

Through rare archival materials, photographs, and oral histories, Made in the Triangle presents a more complete story of RTP’s development—one that commemorates innovation while confronting the local sacrifices that came with it. The exhibit also looks toward RTP’s future, as the Park adapts to a new era of urban tech, smart growth, and global collaboration.

The Museum of Durham History extends its gratitude to the individuals and corporate sponsors whose support made Made in the Triangle possible, including Cisco, MAA Nixie, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, Triangle Community Foundation, Clark Nexsen, A JMT Company, C.T. Wilson Construction, Inc., Duke Energy, Lenovo, Longfellow Real Estate Partners, LLC, and Maxwell, Freeman & Bowman, PLLC.
