John Hope Franklin History Grove Dedication
In the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we unveiled a new History Grove dedicated to Dr. John Hope Franklin. Therefore, we did not get to celebrate its creation properly! We plan on having a dedication ceremony the morning of September 10th, to properly honor Dr. Franklin and his legacy. On August 29th, 1995, Dr. Franklin received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Clinton, in recognition of his lifelong work as a teacher and historian of modern racial barriers.
Dr. Franklin’s History Grove is located a short walk from the Durham Central Park farmer’s market pavilion. Use our History Grove Map as a handy guide to locate the parklet. The dedication ceremony will take place on a Saturday morning, so Central Park will already be very busy with the hustle-and-bustle of the farmer’s market. Plan accordingly!
