HBCU Sports Panel Recap

On Friday, January 14th, the Museum of Durham History presented a lunch-and-learn webinar on the experience of student athletes at local HBCUs. Marcus Manning, Executive Director of the Durham Sports Commission, served as the panel’s moderator and led a very insightful conversation between Athletic Directors Dr. Ingrid Wicker McCree (NCCU) and Earl Hilton III (NC A&T) and football head coaches Trei Oliver (NCCU) and Sam Washington (NC A&T). We were thrilled for the opportunity to partner with the impactful leaders of college sports.

The audience enjoyed hearing the panelists speak about topics such as the development of student athletes in scholarship, athleticism, and preparation for life after football as well as current issues such as name, image and/or likeness and the transfer portal. If you weren’t able to attend, be sure to check it out on our YouTube channel!
