Scope
Durham’s past is filled with fascinating stories, which the Museum of Durham History will bring alive. Educational opportunities for people of all ages and strong collaborations with the region’s historic sites, libraries, universities, and other historical and cultural organizations will be important facets of its work.
Museum planners envision using carefully chosen artifacts, interpretive text, multimedia presentations, programs, the museum web site, and guided tours to relate Durham’s history. Myriad fascinating subjects are available for interpretation: textile mills, civil rights, sports, architecture, tobacco, the blues, early settlers, Native Americans—these are just the beginning. Planners anticipate eventually having a permanent location in downtown Durham. A site has not been selected.
